The Institute of Computational Mechanics & Artificial Intelligence (CMxAI) at Fudan University is an interdisciplinary research hub dedicated to merging advanced computational mechanics, applied mathematics, and artificial intelligence to tackle fundamental challenges in science and engineering.

Job Description
We invite applications from candidates whose work strengthens the mathematical underpinnings of CMxAI’s scientific and engineering mission, especially in areas that bridge:
l Distributed parameter systems / PDE-based dynamics relevant to mechanics, materials, and physical systems
l Nonlinear and networked PDE control with potential applications to engineered or cyber-physical systems
l Numerical methods and large-scale computation supporting multi-physics simulation
l Model- and data-driven integration for intelligent computational engineering
l Scientific machine learning for dynamical systems, PDEs, and physics-informed computation
We particularly welcome applicants who can contribute mathematically rigorous insights while engaging deeply with computational science and engineering challenges.
Key Research Themes on this Position
1. Mathematical Foundations for Computational Mechanics
l Analysis and control of PDEs arising in mechanics, waves, fluids, materials
l Boundary/interface dynamics, nonlinear coupling, high-order operators
l Rigorous frameworks supporting multi-physics simulation and design
2. Networked and Complex-System Dynamics
l Control/optimization on graph-structured or interconnected mechanical systems
l Multi-agent or cyber-physical systems governed by PDE/ODE-PDE models
l Methods enabling robust, scalable simulation of networked dynamics
3. Numerical Analysis & High-Performance Scientific Computing
l Algorithms for coupled hyperbolic and multi-physics systems
l Randomized, multilevel, domain-decomposition, or graph-based solvers
l Scalable computation leveraging GPUs and modern HPC architectures
l Numerics aligned with real engineering applications supported by CMxAI
4. Scientific Machine Learning for Mechanics and Physical Modeling
l Operator learning (FNO, DeepONet, GNO) for computational mechanics
l Physics-informed neural networks and hybrid model–data frameworks
l AI-enhanced optimal control, inverse modeling, and complex-system prediction
l Methods linking mathematical theory with implementable engineering tools
5. Industry-Driven Mathematical Modeling & Control
l Intelligent manufacturing, structural monitoring, robotics, and mechatronics
l Industrial processes governed by PDE-based models
l Collaborative projects with industrial partners leveraging mathematical rigor
Qualifications
l PhD in Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, Mechanics, or a closely related field
l Strong record of research excellence with high-impact publications
l Proven experience in a regular research or faculty position at a world-class university or leading research institute, or selection into competitive international talent programs.
l Evidence of potential (or demonstrated ability) to secure competitive funding
l Commitment to high-quality teaching and mentoring
l Ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment involving mathematics, mechanics, and AI
